Editor, Commonwealth:
I will always see good in this community. I understand that we are going through a lot with all the shootings that have been going on as of late. But I say to my fellow citizens of Greenwood, Ask not what Greenwood will do for you, but what together we can do to better our community.
The price for a great community has always been high, and that is why I’m willing to fight for it, to make a stand for the people. I believe that there are good people in this community.
I have a vision that one day we will not laugh at each other, or make fun of people’s mental or physical disability, but instead judge people by the way they carry themselves or the content of their character. My vision is to see people of all races, religions and backgrounds work together on a common goal to make our community safe again. My vision is to see us all working with the politicians and each other to help bring jobs back to our community so people can support their families better.
I have a vision that children can be children again and play without worry. I have a vision that homeless people can have the resources to find a home and food to eat. My vision is for more summer activities for the children so they can stay out of trouble. My vision is for us to have a community meeting so we can get to the bottom of why young people are having guns in their hands and not books. I have a vision that we will show more love to each other and work together with each other to solve everyday problems.
But in order for this to come true, we have to believe it can happen. We have to hold each other accountable more, stop blaming people for our actions and hold ourselves accountable.
Small steps make big things happen. If we make small steps, then this vision I see will happen someday.
John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood for this same vision.
We can be an even greater community if we try. And that is what we all want in today’s time.
