Police recover weapons after chase, crash; 1 in custody

Greenwood police recovered two firearms and took one person into custody after a chase Friday night.
According to Police Chief Terrence Craft, the man taken into custody had not been charged as of Monday but was being kept on a hold.

Woman shot in hand; man charged

A 75-year-old Greenwood man was charged with domestic aggravated assault with a firearm following a call about shots fired on Thursday.
Corrice Watson of 500 Cedar St. posted a $15,000 bond Friday morning.

Mayor: City is doing well financially

The city of Greenwood is doing well financially, Mayor Carolyn McAdams said at Wednesday night’s meeting of the Greenwood Voters League.
McAdams said the 2022-2023 audit, handled by Greenwood accounting firm Fred T. Neely & Co., was just completed and showed a surplus of $87,000 for the fiscal year.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
