28 to graduate from Carroll Academy at Monday ceremony

Twenty-eight Carroll Academy seniors will graduate Monday with a ceremony at the school’s gymnasium in Carrollton, beginning at 7 p.m.
A baccalaureate ceremony for the seniors will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday in the gym.

Man sentenced to 28 years for shooting

A Goodman man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison on a charge of second-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of a Greenwood man.
Kendrick Vaughns, 41, 3178 U.S. 51, pleaded guilty this week in the fatal shooting of Reginald Washington, Assistant District Attorney Stanley Alexander said.

About 200 to graduate from MVSU Saturday

About 200 students are expected to receive degrees Saturday morning at Mississippi Valley State University’s 72nd graduation ceremony in Itta Bena.
The ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. and will be held at the R.W. Harrison Complex.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
