Coleman sentencing to be held Nov. 14

The federal sentencing of John Coleman, who had pleaded guilty of one count of wire fraud in February, has been postponed until Nov. 14.
Coleman, the disgraced president of the defunct Express Grains Terminals, had been expected to receive his sentencing from U.S. District Judge Michael Mills on June 13 in Oxford.

Gary: 'I'm ready to serve'

Gary told the Greenwood Voters League Wednesday night that he had started work in his new job.

Juneteenth festival set Saturday

A festival marking the Juneteenth holiday will be held Saturday on Front Street in Greenwood.
The national holiday commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States, when a Union officer on June 19, 1865, ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the Civil War.

The Eddie “Sonny” Brown Memorial Swimming Pool is set to open for the summer on Monday. The pool is across from Broad Street Park. City pool opens Monday

The Eddie “Sonny” Brown Memorial Swimming Pool will open for the summer at 8 a.m. Monday across from Broad Street Park.
It will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAd-ams said the pool’s opening had to be delayed for a couple of weeks so that some renovations could be completed.
