Astronomers tend to classify objects as either in the solar system (sun, moon, planets, asteroids, comets, etc.) or outside the solar system — the “deep sky” (other stars, galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, etc.). Distances in the solar system are measured in astronomical units (AU) of about 100 million miles. So, our sun is 1 AU away.
