Much to show in spring game

The first football season under Mississippi Valley State’s new coach, Kendrick Wade, is still many months away, but fans, alumni and football enthusiasts can get a glimpse of the new-look Delta Devils during Saturday’s spring game.
The game kicks off at noon at Rice-Totten Stadium.

Leflore knocked out of playoffs

Leflore County’s tennis team hosted Eupora High School at Mississippi Valley State University’s courts on Monday for the second round of the MHSAA Class 1 playoffs, and bowed out of the postseason with a 7-0 loss.
It was a tough day overall for Leflore, but coach Zavier Johnson said he is proud of his players.

Diamond Devils drop series to Hornets

Mississippi Valley State’s baseball squad was able to win a game over Alabama State during its late-week series in Montgomery last week, but lost the series 2-1.
The series started on Thursday and finished on Friday with a doubleheader.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
