Many honored to join Greenwood-Leflore Hall of Fame

Everything came full-circle for Clinton Gatewood at Saturday’s Greenwood-Leflore Sports Hall of Fame banquet.
The 1989 Amanda Elzy graduate who played four years under coach Henry Fant II as a strong safety in football now is the winningest coach in Greenwood High School history with 102 career wins.

Valley picked to finish fifth in East

Coach Kendrick Wade, quarterback Jamari Jones and defensive back Brandon Williams took to Birmingham on Tuesday, and represented the Delta Devils at 2023’s SWAC Media Days.
“So excited to be here, it’s been a thrill,” Wade said to the hosts of SWAC Media Days, Santoria Black of SWAC Media and Tolly Carr of HBCU Gameday.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
