Valley’s hoops fall to reigning champs

Mississippi Valley’s Rayquan Brown put up 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds against the No. 5-ranked University of Connecticut Tuesday in Hartford, Connecticut, but the reigning Division I national champions rolled past the Delta Devils 87-53.
The Huskies led 44-27 at the break and outscored Valley 43-26 in the second half.

Panthers’ electric run continues at home

Gary Dyksterhouse may be from Raleigh, North Carolina, but he’s built a life he loves in Greenwood.
Dyksterhouse, 43, a former college basketball coach, helps run the family-owned, multifaceted farming business of Due West Farms. But before going into farming, Dyksterhouse was a “fairly high-level” high school basketball player.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
