Panthers and Bulldogs face off

The Panthers and Bulldogs will meet on the field of Bulldog Stadium on Friday for 2022’s showing of the Greenwood High School and Amanda Elzy High School football rivalry.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Greenwood is fresh off a 28-22 win at Greenville Weston High School and brings an overall record of 2-1 into Friday’s game.

JZG, Winona forced to cancel contest

J.Z. George didn’t get to play its rival Winona High School on Friday night due to a shooting in Winona earlier in the day.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and Joey Carpenter, superintendent of the Carroll County School District, conferred and decided to cancel the game for safety reasons.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
