Pillow Academy captured its second straight Division II state championship with a 3-2 win over Lamar School in double overtime Monday at Jackson Academy.

In a Region 4-2A battle, Leflore County got the best of the Jaguars Friday night, beating J.Z. George 70-0 in North Carrollton
“It’s a team effort,” Leflore head coach Eric House said. “We don’t spotlight one player. We come out to play as a team every Friday night.”

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
