Mustangs get big win over DSA

The first of many-to-come competitive soccer matches between Pillow Academy and Delta Streets Academy took place Wednesday on a muddy Mississippi Valley State University soccer field. The turbulent frigid air forced many spectators under blankets while the Mustangs caught fire and defeated the Lions 5-0.

Valley’s hoops fall to Southern

Mississippi Valley State University’s men’s basketball hosted Southern University Monday night in Itta Bena for the second game of a two game home stand, where the Delta Devils fell 84-70 to the Jaguars.
Monday’s loss moves Valley to 2-20 overall, and 1-7 in SWAC.

If you’re driving down Park Avenue and craving authentic Mexican dishes, you can stop at San Miguel Arcangel Tienda y Taqueria Mexicana and be greeted by Serafin Simon.
Simon is owner and operator of San Miguel Arcangel, named after the patron saint of his family’s Mexican hometown of Axutla. He has run the business for 18 years.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
