State offering more incentives to switch to solar energy

The state of Mississippi recently provided further incentives for businesses and residents to consider switching to solar energy.
According to information from the Public Service Commission, homeowners and businesses are being offered a $3,500 rebate for rooftop solar panels.

James Johnson-Waldington, the new superintendent of the Greenwood-Leflore Consolidated School District, has come a long way from the excited little boy who used to exclaim, “Y’all have brick houses?!” to friends after his family made the 30-mile trek to Greenwood from their shotgun- style house in Ruleville.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
