Elzy booster club busy with many projects

Students at Amanda Elzy High School will soon reap the benefits of having a booster club at their school.
Tramel Horton, a grandparent at Elzy, has been working with shool officials on the formation of the club for about eight months, he said. This will be the school’s first athletic booster club.

Board OKs adding Elzy booster club

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board has approved the formation of a new booster club at Amanda Elzy High School.
The board on Tuesday gave its full blessing to Tramel Horton to form the club, although he does not technically need board approval to do so, according to Kelvin Pulley, board attorney.

Board picks provider for gap insurance

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Monday to contract with a new provider of gap insurance for county employees.
Sam Abraham, District 1 supervisor, voted against the motion to accept a proposal from Affordable Employee Benefits of Ecru and Gulf Guaranty of Jackson for secondary coverage.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
