Itta Bena police chief proposes earlier closing time for convenience store

Itta Bena Police Chief James Stonewall has asked the Board of Aldermen to change the closing time curfew for the Four Seasons convenience store from midnight to 11 p.m. in response to crowds gathering there.
Stonewall spoke at the board’s meeting Tuesday.

Fun with quilting: Class enjoys using skills at workshop

Six women had scissors, jokes and bobbins flying at the first in a six-week session adult quilting workshop at ArtPlace Mississippi Tuesday morning.
“I tell good jokes, and that’s why they’re here!” Yolande van Heerden, instructor for the course, said amid a chorus of laughter.

Collins to sit in on hospital negotiations

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors has appointed its president to sit in on continued negotiations with the University of Mississippi Medical Center over the proposed lease of Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
The board took the action Monday following a 50-minute closed-door meeting with Gary Marchand, the hospital’s interim CEO.
