Greenwood readies for Christmas parade on Dec. 2

School board runoff is Tuesday

District 3’s seat on the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board will be decided Tuesday in a runoff election.
Incumbent board President Samantha Milton, 53, and retired Leflore County coach and educator Henry Fant, 61, are the two candidates on the ballot.

Man shoots at state trooper, arrested after chases

A Mississippi state trooper was shot at Thursday following an early-morning traffic stop in Holmes County but sustained no injuries, according to authorities.
Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said the unnamed trooper had made a routine traffic stop at about 6:30 a.m. when the young man he pulled over sped away.

Greenwood sees uptick in Thanksgiving travelers

As the holidays are upon us, Greenwood hotels are receiving travelers from all over who are coming to visit their families.
Marcus Brown, who works part time as a receptionist at the Hampton Inn and full time as a third grade teacher at Davis Elementary School, said guests have come from as far as California.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.
