District governor: Rotary Club must tout its service

A Rotary Club district governor says the best way to attract more members is to emphasize the organization’s commitment to service.
Richard Butts, the district governor for District 6820, which includes Greenwood’s club, addressed the club Wednesday about how to get current members involved and how to attract new members.

Judge dismisses suit against school district by former employee

Ronda Rimmer’s lawsuit against the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District has been dismissed at her own request.
Rimmer’s discrimination and harassment lawsuit was dismissed without prejudice by U.S. District Judge Debra Brown on Monday. A dismissal without prejudice means it can be filed again.

Mayor busy studying, learning

Emmett Chassaniol Jr. is remembered by his wife for his commitment to the cotton business and commitment to others.
“We were so astounded at the number of people who came to the visitation,” said Mr. Chassaniol’s wife, state Sen. Lydia Chassaniol. “Emmett would have loved to have talked to everybody. He hated to miss a good party.”

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
