Gary offers city election aid for a price

Leflore County Circuit Clerk Johnny Gary Jr. is offering his office’s help to conduct Greenwood’s municipal elections this spring — for a price.
The offer is for his office to test, program, prepare, deliver and return the county’s voting machines for the city’s usage.

City lands grant for Walthall Street work

Greenwood has received a new batch of funds to pay for improvements on the downtown portion of Walthall Street that will begin in the next few months.
In total, Greenwood now has close to $3 million to fund the project.

High egg prices cause frustration

Emily Handwerker celebrated her 76th birthday on Feb. 9, and she says her brother gave her an especially valuable gift this year: a dozen eggs.
Rising egg prices have made it more expensive for Handwerker to make her favorite pecan pies. She said she needs three eggs to make one pie.

Greenwood native is acting US attorney

Abe McGlothin Jr., born and raised in Greenwood, is now the acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.
McGlothin had worked as the office’s second-in-command — known as first assistant U.S. attorney — since June 2023.
