Police chief: Recruiting, retention improving

When speaking to the Greenwood Rotary Club Wednesday, Police Chief Terrence Craft mentioned a recent Mississippi Valley State University graduate who had expressed interest in becoming a police officer.
That graduate passed the department’s physical training test and is now going through the application process.

Dr. Elaine Gray, a pastor and bail bondsman, has congestive heart failure and spent almost a week in a Memphis hospital recovering from double pneumonia earlier this month. Gray is using her experience to create greater awareness about the problems and management of congestive heart failure.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
