Federal funds to be used for govt. services

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to use federal COVID-19 relief funds for county government services.
District 2’s Reginald Moore said that if a county is receiving less than $10 million and has a population of less than 250,000, it can use the funds on government services.

Express Grain Terminals: Tentative settlement reached on grain

A tentative settlement has been reached over ownership of the grain and grain proceeds currently in Express Grain Terminal’s possession.
Attorneys announced the deal during a Friday hearing just days before a trial was scheduled to begin April 18. That trial has been postponed, but the date has not been set.

Vocalist Brown to present Holy Week concert

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
