Many wish outgoing mayor well at meeting

An emotional Mayor Carolyn McAdams was celebrated at Tuesday’s Greenwood City Council meeting as her 16-year tenure in office approaches its end.
“You know how much I hate to cry — and I do it very seldom — but y’all have just taken me aback today by everyone showing up and everyone being here,” she said.

School board votes to fire Johnson

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board voted to fire Superintendent Mary Johnson at a special call meeting Wednesday.
Following a four-hour executive session, board attorney Derrick Simmons announced the board was releasing Johnson from her contract effective immediately.
Simmons declined to say how each member voted.

Supervisors await estimate for juvenile center repairs

With budget work approaching, Leflore County supervisors are still waiting to hear what it will cost to make needed repairs to the county’s juvenile detention center.
The center’s director, Sheron Elliott, told the board Monday the information was still being put together.
