Man arrested on federal weapon charges

Justice court judge, constable, state House candidate speak

Shootings kill teenager and injure two others

A 14-year-old is dead as a result of a shooting on Tuesday evening that also saw his 12-year-old cousin injured.
Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders said Robert Anderson III suffered multiple gunshot wounds on the 1000 block of Peace Street.

Coleman wants trial postponed again

John Coleman, the former president of Express Grain Terminals LLC, has asked that his federal trial on fraud charges be delayed once again.
In a motion filed Monday by Coleman’s attorney, John Colette, Coleman asks that his federal trial, originally scheduled for Aug. 14, be moved to an unspecified date in October or November.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
