Special election for Ward 6 council seat set Feb. 17

The city of Greenwood will have a special election Feb. 17 to fill the vacancy caused by the Jan. 2 death of Ward 6 Councilwoman Dorothy Glenn.
Glenn had been reelected to her second term last year. The winner of the February election will serve the remainder of her term, which will expire in June 2029.

Police department filling vacancies, chief says

The Greenwood Police Department looks much different from what it did two months ago.

That’s when Serafin Simon Jr. was named interim chief of police and Talisha Leach was promoted from captain to deputy chief. The team hit the ground beginning Nov. 1 trying to fill a number of vacancies within the department.

Simon elevated to chief from interim

Serafin Simon Jr. is now chief of police for the city of Greenwood.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the City Council voted 5-1 to drop the interim tag after amending the agenda to consider a resolution making him the permanent chief.
