Wicker wins; runoff next for Hyde-Smith, Espy

JACKSON — Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi won re-election Tuesday, and a special election for the state’s other Senate seat is headed to a runoff.

Mississippi voters will either elect a woman to the Senate for the first time ever or will send a black man to the Senate for the first time since Reconstruction.

JACKSON — A Republican appointed to the U.S. Senate said Thursday that she represents “Mississippi values” by supporting President Donald Trump.

“Our country is better off right now than it was two years ago,” Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith told hundreds of businesspeople at Hobnob, a social event sponsored by the Mississippi Economic Council.
