JACKSON - Several proposals before the Legislature would increase exemptions on state income taxes for Mississippi soldiers.
National Guard and Reserve soldiers can currently claim a $5,000 exemption on state income taxes. A number of lawmakers, military officials and others argue the men and women in uniform deserve more.
