Antwoine Williams Jr. didn’t choose DJing as much as DJing chose him.
His first time performing came at his own birthday party back in high school, when he took the stage with an old computer borrowed from his uncle Jacoby, also a DJ, after the scheduled act failed to show. It turned out he was a natural.

Remembering Amanda Elzy legend and NFL great Leroy Jones

Before he played his first junior high basketball game at Amanda Elzy, Leroy Jones received a foretelling introduction from his coach, Willie Lewis.
“Hey, we got an outstanding athlete coming on,” Lewis told the crowd. “He’s going to be one of the greatest ever. I want you to check him out.”

Florewood River Plantation Lake opening to public

After years of renovation, the Florewood River Plantation Lake will open to the public next Saturday morning, June 26, for fishing.
Anjuan Brown, the Leflore County Board of Supervisors representative for District 3, spearheaded this project along with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP).

Pair represents Pillow baseball at State Games

Two Pillow Academy baseball players represented District 3 in the State Games in Meridian this week.
Their team went winless, but rising juniors Brock Makamson and John Heston Powers gained valuable experience playing against top talent in front of over a dozen college scouts.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
