JACKSON — On Dec. 29, the Baton Rouge Advocate reported that officials were conferring about opening spillways on the Mississippi River to minimize flooding in Louisiana. On the same day The Vicksburg Post reported that because of severe flooding, Mississippi’s deer season along the river would close Jan. 3, almost a month early.
