Proud of his creations: Artist shows off work at liquor store

Ricky Ferguson beamed with delight when he saw his colorful paintings hanging on the navy walls of Cru Fine Wine and Rare Whiskey in downtown Greenwood.
“I am proud,” the 59-year-old artist said Monday during a visit to the liquor store.

CVB director resigns, takes newspaper job

After less than five months on the job, Patrick Ervin has resigned as executive director of the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau in order to take another job.
His last day with the CVB was Thursday, according to Andrew McQueen, director of the Leflore County Civic Center and chairman of the CVB board.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
