Rain that began Sunday evening has raised the level of rivers in Leflore County, causing flooding in some low-lying areas, though there had been no reports of flooded homes as of Monday, says Fred Randle, the county’s emergency management director.

Kirkin' O' the Tartans

First Presbyterian Church will celebrate its denomination’s Scottish heritage with its 22nd annual Kirkin’ O’ the Tartans celebration Sunday morning, March 7.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some modifications have been made to the yearly event. However, men and women will be still be wearing Scottish dress, including kilts.

Greenwood Community Center ready to serve

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
