Kassie Carter says she feels that she was born to reach out and help others.

“I’m just that type of person,” she said. “I just love bringing joy to other people. I love helping people. That’s just me. If I can do something to help somebody else, my day has been made.”

ArtPlace Mississippi to start sample series Monday

ArtPlace Mississippi is adding new programming to its repertoire.

A four-week performing arts sample series featuring dance, theater and music programs for children, youth and adults will kick off Monday.

The instructor will be Jenna Arnold, a newcomer to Greenwood who has an extensive performing arts background.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
