About 20 children ages 6 months to 6 years old are learning how to become “little aquatic problem solvers” at Twin Rivers Recreation.

“ISR teaches them how to self-rescue,” said Stacy Humble, a certified Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) program instructor. “In six weeks, these children will be equipped to save themselves.”

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church’s annual Mardi Gras Celebration is a fun event with a festive atmosphere, says Robert Tanner.

“People dress up and have a good time,” said Tanner, who is vice chair of the church’s Mardi Gras Committee. “The community looks forward to this event.”

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
