Sundays at the Pulley home are filled with family, fellowship and multiple courses of freshly prepared entrees and sides made with love by Margie Pulley.

She wakes up early before church time to begin preparing the afternoon meal, where she serves anywhere from 10 to 30 people each week.

Revival on the River is relocating to the Leflore County Civic Center.

This Saturday’s Christian music festival was originally to be held outdoors at the park between the two downtown bridges on the banks of Yazoo River.

Marvin Crowder’s white azalea bush called Mrs. G.G. Gerbing at his Itta Bena home produced a half-white, half-pink flower this spring. The bush is about 30 years old and has always had white flowers before this year.

Itta Bena man’s azalea produces rare flower

Marvin Crowder found something unique on his Mrs. G.G. Gerbing azalea bush at his Itta Bena home this spring.

The about 30-year-old azalea that has always displayed white blossoms featured a half-white, half-pink flower directly in the front and center of the bush.

Revival on the River

A “phenomenal” group of musicians is set to perform at this year’s Revival on the River, says the event’s founder Ethan Oltremari.

“It’s a great lineup of very, very talented artists,” he said.

The annual Christian music festival will be held Saturday, May 11, at the park between the bridges on the banks of the Yazoo River.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
