Emergency personnel and fellow bikers tend to a cyclist after he was hit Saturday morning by a pickup truck near Itta Bena during the Bikes, Blues & Bayous bike ride. The cyclist, identified as 49-year-old Jim O'Daniel from Clinton, died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Wanda Burchfield says she’s not one to waste.

The Greenwood native and resident has been using the same parcel buggy that she received on her first day of work as a rural mail carrier at the Itta Bena Post Office more than 30 years ago.

One of summer’s greatest delights for a gardener is cutting fresh, fragrant herbs that are ready to spice up a meal or for a variety of other uses.

“Herbs make life fun,” said Anita Batman, a member of Town and Country Garden Club.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
