“Everyone is very nice,” she said.

Richard Beattie, a co-founder and organizer of Bikes, Blues & Bayous, is gearing up for the 14th annual event. Wearing the event’s 2021 USA-themed cycling kit in honor of the Olympics being held this year, Beattie holds up a BBB sign featuring its “Welcome Back” theme in one hand and this year’s finisher medal in the other. Bikes, Blues & Bayous

Welcome back.
That’s the theme of the 14th annual Bikes, Blues & Bayous, which is on track to reaching a record-breaking number of participants. This is following a year when the event, known as Mississippi’s largest bike ride, was forced to cap the number of participants to just over 500 to adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
