Chaney makes pageant’s top 10

Caroline Chaney says competing in the Mississippi Miss Hospitality pageant was the best week of her life.
“It was very stressful, but it was so rewarding,” said the 18-year-old who was one of 42 contestants competing for the state title. “I met some of my best friends, and I learned so much about Mississippi.”

GOP convention watch party will be held Thursday

Members of the Leflore County GOP are gearing up to celebrate the Republican National Convention with a watch party and a lineup of guest speakers.
The event is free to attend and will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Old City Hall, 103 E. Market St.

Naomi Jones, the library’s director, said this summer’s programming is themed “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” which is also the national theme, and she is encouraging everyone to “come have an adventure at your library.”

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
