Library to celebrate ‘successful summer’

The Greenwood-Leflore Public Library will hold a back-to-school event Saturday to celebrate its summer programs and to give back to the local public schools.

“We had a very successful summer,” said Barbara Goss, the library’s youth specialist. “We have really been busy, and it has been a great thing.”

2nd Ramcat festival Saturday

The 2015 Bikes, Blues & Bayous is shaping up to be the event’s largest bike ride yet.

In its eighth year, Bikes, Blues & Bayous has already accumulated about 720 registered participants — only 11 shy of last year’s number, which was the most in the ride’s history.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
