‘The Producers’ is a hit with audience

The Greenwood Little Theatre opened its 60th season with a bang.

“The Producers,” directed by Paul Brown, opened Thursday evening in front of a packed house at the W. M. Whittington Playhouse.

The show delighted the large audience, producing roars of laughter and cheers throughout.

Children can hear Halloween stories

Altrusa International of Greenwood is promoting literacy on Oct. 31 with a spooky story time at the Greenwood-Leflore Public Library.

The event, which was originally scheduled for Saturday but has been moved to Halloween day, is an Altrusa community service project to celebrate national Make A Difference Day.

For the many Greenwood-area bibliophiles, attending the Friends of the Library book sale Saturday will be similar to going on a treasure hunt.

“Sometimes you can find jewels,” said Anita Batman, president of the Friends of the Library. “The books are in no particular order, so it’s like treasure hunting.”

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
