Local writer’s play offers message of forgiveness

“Pay Attention” — a play written by Kendra Nash and co-produced by Nash and Gregory West, both of Greenwood — will debut Saturday at the Leflore County Civic Center.

The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the production will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets will be $15 at the door.

First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood’s 35th annual Singing Christmas Tree was held Monday night. The event brought out about 400 and featured about 100 singers on the tree performing Christmas carols. The Singing Christmas Tree also included a live Nativity scene and a reading about the birth of Christ.

Final curtain for holiday tradition

Angel Tree delivers gifts to area kids

For several hundred Greenwood-area children, the Angel Tree program helps ensure that each will wake up on Christmas morning to presents under the tree.

The Salvation Army program provides Christmas gifts to children in need through donations from community members, local businesses, churches, clubs and other organizations.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
