Mardi Gras Celebration: St. Francis preparing for upcoming annual event

The annual St. Francis Mardi Gras Celebration is the church’s gift to the community, says the Rev. Hilary Brzezinski.
“We give them the gift of fun, a good time, great food, a great DJ,” said the church’s pastor. “This is how we show appreciation to them and all that they do for us and our community.”

A Taste of Soup: Fundraiser features soups, talented Carroll artists

There’s no better way to warm up on a winter day than with a bowl of soup.
Servings of six tasty recipes will be offered next Saturday, Feb. 1 at the annual A Taste of Soup and Art Exhibit.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Community House in Carrollton.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
