Grant buys 2 vehicles for Carroll sheriff

Two new Ford Explorers will soon be patrolling the roads of Carroll County thanks to a recently received federal grant.

The vehicles were part of a $1.58 million package of loans and grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to a press release from U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran’s office.

Colorado students get history lesson in South

Nineteen students from Aspen, Colorado, decided to spend a few days in the sweltering Mississippi Delta to learn about the legacy of slavery and the struggle for civil rights.

They also got to pick some cotton on Star of the West Plantation.

Video spotlights Tchula chief

TCHULA — Tchula Police Chief Kenneth Hampton is the subject of a new six-minute online video from the Southern Documentary Project.

Hampton said the documentary, titled “Walking Tall in Tchula,” which was produced by Rex Jones, captures his philosophy regarding law enforcement in the small Delta town.

Rehab services dept. to get new office

A new building on Professional Plaza will house the district office of the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services.

The goal for opening the 9,600-square-foot building at 104 Professional Plaza is Sept. 28, said Martin Tribble Sr. of MT&MT Development LLC.
