Pickpocket appears to be at work, police warn

BA rash of three pickpocketing cases over a six-day period — including two on the same day — is prompting the Greenwood Police Department to urge shoppers to be extra vigilant.

Police Chief Ray Moore said this morning that one suspect is being sought in relation to all three cases.

‘New’ police HQ

Greenwood’s ugly duckling of a Police Department on Main Street is about to be unveiled as a beautiful swan.

On June 2 at 10 a.m., the city will hold a ribbon-cutting and open house for the building, located at 114 Main St. The public is invited.

J.Z. George graduation coming up Friday

Seventy-two seniors at J.Z. George High School will graduate at commencement exercises Friday.

The graduation is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the school’s football field.

Justin Randle of Coila is the class valedictorian, and Mary Alana McKay of Carrollton is the salutatorian. On the ACT, they scored 27 and 22, respectively.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
