Life Help mental health center will focus on the people and culture of the Philippines at its annual Cultural Diversity Day this week.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Leflore County Civic Center.

Voters League to mark 50 years

For 50 years, the Greenwood Voters League has served as a guardian of civil rights for African-Americans.

On Friday night, the Voters League will hold its 50th annual banquet at the Leflore County Civic Center.

The theme for this year’s event is: The Greenwood Voters League: A Champion for Human Rights.

Henry St. flags signal seasons, holidays

The banners, which correspond to the seasons of the year and special holidays, are the brainchild of Ward 4 Councilman Charles McCoy.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
