District expels 2 students

Two students have been expelled for the year from the Leflore County School District following formal action Monday.

Dr. Ilean Richards, conservator of the district, approved the expulsions during her monthly signing ceremony on Monday afternoon.

Van tops Mentoring Group’s holiday wish list

The Greenwood Mentoring Group has gotten its Christmas wish list together and is looking for a few volunteers to make it happen.

One of the big items on the list is a second van that can accommodate 12 to 15 passengers. The group already has a 12-passenger van.

Doctor shares culture of Philippines

Mayor uncertain on seeking appeal costs

Although the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the city of Greenwood could hire outside counsel for an election challenge, Mayor Carolyn McAdams said she didn’t know whether she would seek reimbursement from the city to cover her costs in the appeal.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
