Baptist Town ‘eyesore’ going down

‘Pilgrimage for Life’ coming up Saturday at Locus Benedictus

The Redemptorists of Greenwood and the Catholic Diocese of Jackson will present a “Pilgrimage for Life” Saturday at Locus Benedictus in Greenwood.

The event is also sponsored by the Diocese of Jackson Hispanic Youth Ministry and will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Locus Benedictus is located at 1500 Levee Road.

City short of patrol officers

Conservator happy district held class

During the season’s first major blast of cold weather last Friday, the Leflore County School District was able to keep its classrooms open.

“We were able to have school,” Dr. Ilean Richards, the conservator of the district, said during the monthly signing ceremony Monday.

Other area schools also remained open last Friday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
