Three newly born puppies were found abandoned in Carroll County Tuesday morning. A $750 reward is being offered by In Defense of Animals — Hope Animal Sanctuary of Carroll County, for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the abandonment of the puppies. Doll Stanley, director of IDA-HAS, said this morning that one of the puppies has died.

CARROLLTON — A $750 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the abandonment of three newly born puppies along Mississippi 35.

The reward is being offered by In Defense of Animals — Hope Animal Sanctuary (IDA-HAS), which is based in Carroll County.

Miller Calhoun, 6, the son of Taylor and Allison Calhoun, is being treated for leukemia at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. The first-grader at Pillow Academy has managed to stay in good spirits during his treatment. He is expected to stay hospitalized in Memphis through February.

The food baskets are a collaborative project of Greenwood Market Place, Greenwood attorney Lee Abraham, Greenwood Utilities and St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School.

Police ramp up anti-DUI efforts

The Greenwood Police Department has been on the lookout for drivers who have had too much to drink.

Safety checkpoints were implemented Dec. 12 and will continue until Jan. 1, said Chris McDonald, the department’s DUI coordinator. They might be used during daytime hours, McDonald said.
