Faiths join for weekend of workshops

Alleged robber is shot at store

A man who allegedly robbed a Greenwood convenience store at gunpoint Saturday is recovering from a gunshot wound he received during the incident.

Nathaniel Taylor, 26, 216 Noel St., was listed in good condition this morning at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams says the city is on track to begin once-a-week garbage pickup sometime in February.

“We have the trucks now, but until we make the first payment, we cannot use them,” she said.

Judge chosen for Perkins' mayor election challenge

Senior Status Judge Henry Lackey has been appointed to preside over the upcoming election challenge involving Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams and Sheriel Perkins.

Leflore County Circuit Clerk Elmus Stockstill said he talked with Lackey late Friday afternoon.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
