Relay for Life kicks off 2015 Thursday

Fighting cancer takes a team effort — and that’s why the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Leflore/Carroll County has begun its efforts to raise $60,000, the majority of which will go toward cancer research.

Rail Spike Park will likely be one step closer to reality if the Greenwood City Council approves the sole bid from a contractor to supervise the work.

Mayor Carolyn McAdams is requesting that the council approve W.L. Burle Engineers P.A. of Greenville for the project.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
