Rain delays planting

Leflore County farmers have been keeping an eye on the weather while waiting to get into their rain-soaked fields.

“I would say that 98 or 99 percent of the corn has been planted in the southern end of the county,” said Andy Braswell Sr., an agent with the Leflore County Extension Service.

Lifelong dancer keeps moving at 73

Betty Aden has always loved dance — and at 73, she remains on the move.

In the winter months, she teaches water aerobics on Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Comfort Inn’s indoor pool for Twin Rivers Recreation Association. In the summer, she teaches it every day at Twin Rivers.

Local MDA office to close

Economic development leaders said Thursday that they were disappointed by the decision to close the Greenwood office of the Mississippi Development Authority.

The office is one of eight scheduled to be closed by June 30. The others are in Senatobia, Tupelo, Meridian, Jackson, Summit, Hattiesburg and Gulfport.
