World traveler Rogers joins staff

No tax hike in proposed city budget

Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams said Monday that she is proud that the city’s proposed $11.9 million general fund budget doesn’t contain a tax increase.

A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at City Hall. The council will formally approve the budget at its meeting on Sept. 1.

2 men charged with murder

The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department has charged two Greenwood men with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting Sunday of one man and the wounding of three others.

The suspects — Michael Holland, 23, 704 Mississippi Ave., and David Reedy, 24, 700 Elm St. — remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.

Greenwood Utilities’ new president-CEO focused on his job

Anthony “Tony” Sinclair has been immersing himself in his new job as president and chief executive officer of Greenwood Utilities.

“My concentration for the next six months is going to be with the utility company itself. I need to devote myself,” said Sinclair.

Sinclair replaces Brian Finnegan in the utility’s top position.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
