Hunters to get tax holiday

The state’s second annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday, which begins Friday, is expected to bring sports enthusiasts out in search of bargains.

The holiday, which runs through midnight Sunday, exempts guns, ammunition and archery supplies from the state’s 7 percent sales tax.

Trial set for Sept. 28

The Greenwood 2013 mayoral election contest between incumbent Carolyn McAdams and challenger Sheriel Perkins is finally heading to court.

The jury trial will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Leflore County Courthouse.

Leflore County Circuit Clerk Elmus Stockstill received specially appointed Judge Henry Lackey’s order Monday.

Police officer says job is ‘a passion’ for him

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
