Mentoring group to hold prayer breakfast

On Saturday, the Greenwood Mentoring Group will have a bit of a celebration: its 11th annual Community Prayer Breakfast.

The breakfast will be from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center. Tickets are $20 each.

Greenwood Leflore Hospital, thanks to a $1.2 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control, is gearing up to fight diabetes. The program is known as REACH (Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Healthcare). The goal is to reduce the incidence of diabetes in the Delta by demonstrating that healthy and tasty dishes can easily be prepared at home. A rollout of the program is planned for Greenwood Market Place from Thursday through Saturday. About 30 attend Day of Dialogue

About 30 people attended a gathering Saturday morning aimed at addressing racism from a Christian perspective.

The second annual Day of Dialogue was organized by Mission Mississippi and held at the Historic Elks Building. It featured small group discussions as well as a panel of community leaders.

Greenwood is putting the finishing touches on the Eddie “Sonny” Brown Memorial Pool.

Major work on the $275,750 project has been completed, and the pool, located at 601 Ave. N, is ready to go, Mayor Carolyn McAdams said.

She said the pool will open June 1 and close in early August, when school starts.
